Board Game

How does the user activates the audio that verifies the answer given by him/her?

Well the idea is to roll up a dice, according to the number obtained; each player has a number, the user needs to guess the player that corresponds to that number, as well as his country and the continent of that country. As previously, in order to activate the audio recorded in the ISD1820, the button “playl” has to be pressed.

The ISD1820 will be attached to the bottom layer, located 6cm from the top layer where the faces of the players are. The three buttons are very small, they dont have the height to reach the top layer. Therefore, an object of the same dimension of the diameter of the buttons must be used to pressed the “playl” button.

As a result, holes need to be made to the top layer, specifically in some part of the face of each football player, aligned with the button that will be located in the bottom layer. In our case, since it's just a prototype, we only have one hole, located in the neck of the player “Zinedine Zidane”. This hole was created using the vertical drilling machine, the hole was made using first a 5mm drill bit, then 6mm and finally 7mm drill bit. Important to mention that the layer was fixed to the support of the vertical drill with two press scissors. This press scissors have teeths to hold firmly, therefore, we place random wood to our layer in order to avoid damage.

Now that we had our hole for pressing the bottom to reproduce the audio to verify the answer given, we need to align the ISD1820 “playl” button according to the hole in the neck of “Zinedine Zidane”. Therefore, we placed the top layer over the screws attached to the sides of the board game, these screws serve as a platform to rest the top layer and remove it when necessary.

After placing the top layer over the platform, we introduce a pencil inside the hole of the top layer, and marked a point in the bottom layer. As expected, this point represents the position where the “playl” button must be located.

Then we decided to place the ISD1820 according to the spot marked, we marked a silhoute we a pencil of the entire ISD1820 in order to proceed with the installation to the base. The ISD1820 has holes in every corner in order to introduce screws and hold it.

For this part we grabbed a 3mm drill bit, however, the perforation had to be exact due to the thickness of the base. We decided to make the perforation of 1cm. In order to be exact we putted some tape at 1cm of the drill bit, served as a mark to indicate when to stop. Proceed with the perforation of the 4 holes.

We used 3 mm diameter screws with no neck = flat face, with a 1.5 length. After this we screwed the four screws into the holes of the ISD1820, previously aligned to the hole of the top layer.

Then, we needed to do the same procedure for the battery case. This case contains the three AA batteries that serve as the energy to turn on the ISD1820. Therefore, it has to be really close to the ISD1820. First proceed with the alignment, then mark the holes with a pencil and finally with the same drill bit do the perforation for the screws. We also used 3 mm diameter screws with no neck = flat face, with a 1.5 length for the battery supply installation. Connect the ground and voltage cables to the ISD1820 as previously mentioned.

Finally, the last part of the project is to have an object of more than 7 cm that acts as the button to activate the message through the hole. We just grabbed a stick with a diameter of 7mm, cutted with a length of 7 cm. The following video is an illustration of how the board game works.
